About the club

HealED at IU was founded with the hopes of creating a space at IU for those passionate about eating disorder awareness to connect through philanthropy, support, and activism. The club is open to all and we welcome anyone curious about their relationship with food and their body to learn more about eating disorders, diet culture, and disordered eating. In a world rapt by diet culture, we are all affected in some way whether we realize it or not.

Eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses with someone dying every 52 minutes as the direct result of an eating disorder. Eating disorders do not discriminate and affect people of all races, genders, religions, and walks of life. People of color, people in larger bodies, and men are among a few of the populations that often go underdiagnosed with eating disorders due to stereotypes around eating disorders. The prevalence of eating disorders is ever-increasing and along with it is the need for support.

Our goal as an organization is to make a difference within the IU community by providing education and resources, and to the eating disorder community as a whole by volunteering our time and passion. We welcome all the help we can get in spreading awareness and visibility about eating disorders. We believe support is a critical part of recovery and we are beyond excited to be a place for that support at IU.
